yo!

I’m sitting on my couch listening to Jeff Pianki and I’m pretty stoked on life. In the last month or so this band has seemingly taken on a life of its own, and feels like this crazy snowball rolling down a mountain, getting bigger and bigger, moving faster and faster.

Metaphors are definitely not my forte, haha :]

Looking like a total badass in our jam space/demo recording studio is, however, most definitely Justin’s forte.

In this month we’ve probably done more than we have in the last four years of being a band (four years? holy crap). I get home from work and immediately start working on something cera related, whether it’s writing, recording, promoting or planning. Can’t say I don’t love the amount of work this is giving me!

We’re writing a new album, with the intent to record it in the summer. The stuff that we’ve been writing lately is really really exciting to all of us, and I feel like it’s absolutely leaps and bounds better than the best parts of swans.

Ryan’s new hollowbody. Also in view is Gord’s new Orange amp, with front plate tastefully removed to leave the tubes visible! Also, a cat.

Our writing process is basically working on songs in sets of threes, and recording demos to critique, revise, and re-record. We’re two sets deep right now (for those doing the math, that’s six new songs!) and have material for two more sets waiting to be worked on (twelve!). The goal is to have fifteen songs, pick about ten of them, and take them to a forreal studio and record the best sounding album we possibly can.

As the sets evolve, I’m sure one of us will post our thoughts or descriptions to let you in on what we’re up to.

Our planning whiteboard. You can see an example of our ingenuity here, where an accidental hole in the board became an elephant’s butt.

Other than that, we’ve got a few things on the go, including the recording of an acoustic EP for online release, and the online release of our old EP that we’ve kind of retroactively named Skyline EP. Both of these are to support our recording endeavours, so if you feel like helping us out, head over to our Bandcamp and check it out!

I’m gonna wrap it up! But I’ll finish by saying that we know that a blog can be a silly thing — a really self-indulgent thing — but that we’re going to try our absolute hardest to make this actually interesting, fun, and enlightening to anybody who decides we’re worth the read. So, if at any point you say to yourself “man this is a boring, jerky blog” please feel very free to say “yo this is a boring, jerky blog” and we’ll do what we can to fix it!
